Ann Marie (Allman) Schmittling lived exceptionally from January 10, 1954 to February 26, 2019. She was an incredible mother to Emily Kate (Kohler), Benjamin Thomas and Maggie Rose (Stafford) and an amazing grandmother to Audrey Rose (12), Hayden Paul (10), Eliza Ann (8), Levi Joseph (5) and Matilda Frances (3). Ann was also a cherished wife, deeply in love with Paul for over 44 years.
Ann was known for her bright gap-toothed smile, loving heart, brilliant sense of humor and the countless lives she touched. Ann was a people person and thrived off of the connections and the stories of the people who came into her life.
Her philosophy aligned with the words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Ann’s greatest gift was her genuine interest in other people. She cared, listened and was sincerely invested in the person she was with. Ann was all in.
Giving and helping others was extremely important to Ann. Her family has set up a scholarship to honor her legacy. The Ann Schmittling Memorial scholarship fund provides scholarships to Leelanau County residents who are enrolled in a nursing or midwifery program or in a medical field.
